SAUDI FOOD & DRUG AUTHORITY GUIDELINES ON CLEARANCE PERMITS FOR CONTROLLED DRUGS FOR TRAVELERS

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA),on 14 August 2025,published guidelines on the procedures for securing a'clearance permit for controlled drugs containing narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances carried by travelers entering or departing from Saudi Arabia.

According to the SFDA, all information related to controlled drug permits is available through its Controlled Drugs System (CDS) at [https://cds.sfda.gov.sa]. Travelers may apply directly through the CDS platform by:

1.Creating a personal account; 2. Submitting an electronic clearance permit request with the patient's details and trip

3. Uploading supporting documents like a prescription, medical report, and proof of identity. information; and

Travelers may also add multiple medications by providing complete details, including the trade name, active ingredient, drug concentration, and quantity or pack size, together with documents substantiating the medical need, whether for the traveler or another patient. Travelers can also track the status of the application, which is classified as "Submitted," "Completed," "Rejected," or "Incomplete."
